Compare what two cars cost to buy and run in Victoria over the years you plan to keep them. It uses the same registration and motor vehicle duty rules as the rego calculator, and the risk zone you pick here. Every starting number is an example, so replace them with your own.

Motor vehicle duty is $8.40 per $200 for electric cars and other low-emission cars (up to 120 g/km) at any price. Other cars pay more once the value passes $80,809. The state budget says the low rate will be limited for green cars above a luxury threshold from 1 July 2027, subject to legislation, which is not applied here.
Registration is the same for electric and petrol cars, and includes the TAC charge. Victoria has no electric vehicle road user charge, because the High Court struck it down. Fees are held flat.
Insurance, tyres, depreciation and home charger installation are left out unless you add them under servicing or resale.
